While treatment centers and programs traditionally have focused on drug addiction within the framework of 12-Step philosophies and treated the associated conditions, dual-diagnosis, bipolar disorder, depression, trauma disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, (PTSD) etc. that perpetuate addiction as secondary, MILESTONES addresses chemical dependency, substance use, and the "associated conditions" equally and simultaneously.

With a vision for providing an ideal setting to address both chemical dependency and the wide range of associated behaviors, (bipolar disorder, depression, chronic pain disorder, trauma disorders,-PTSD), other conditions and disorders, MILESTONES Ranch Malibu practices an innovative method of treatment for substance use disorders, drug and alcohol addictions and co-occurring disorders. This has become known as the MILESTONES Method. We incorporate various rehabilitation philosophies in each treatment program. The MILESTONES experience proves that this is how and where effective rehabilitation treatment occurs - when both the substance use and accompanying mental health disorders, be it bi-polar disorder, depression, or PTSD, etc. they are dealt with simultaneously.

The MILESTONES method also includes experiential groups, psychodrama, art, music, equine assisted psychotherapy, fitness, yoga, and "ropes" course training that provides a curriculum that provides the drug or alcohol addict with more options as an individual and with more tools to cope with their addiction as well as find a healthy, happy way to live in recovery.

Recent research shows that 70% of people treated for substance use disorders also have a co-occurring mental health diagnosis. At MILESTONES we recognize this and individualize every client's care plan to address these issues simultaneously. We use motivational interviewing and solution focused rehabilitation treatment strategies to address the client's unique needs and strengths.

MILESTONES is able to provide the highest level of personalized treatment for psychological disorders such as major depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, bipolar, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma (which includes sexual, physical, emotional and spiritual abuse), pain management and the co-occurring substance use disorders.

Day treatment and aftercare services are also available to the client and their family members so that recovery can continue in a timely and effective manner.

MILESTONES offers drug and alcohol relapse prevention education and drug and alcohol aftercare plans that may include: consistent follow-up with treatment team members, weekly alumni support meetings, drug and alcohol rehab and/or mental health addictions and Internet-based communications programs. Clients can also be transitioned to other drug and alcohol or mental health tracts or levels of care such as: drug and alcohol day treatment, intensive drug and alcohol rehab outpatient programs and/or individual/family rehabilitation therapy.
